Search Engine Optimization

One of the key elements that must be taken into consideration for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the search engine being used. While there are many search engines out there ( such as bing, ask jeeves, yahoo, etc), the primary search engine used by most individuals today is Google. Understanding Google is significant when implementing SEO.

Google has a set of rules that it expects web experts to abide by inorder to rank highly. It is desirable for sites to rank highly on google inorder to grow your business and increase internet traffic to your site. Google is magnanimous only to a certain extent. It is a corporation after all and it's primary goal is to make money. It does this when people click on business sites that pay per click through google advertising. The good news is, you do not have to spend a vast amount of money to rank highly on googles search engines. Google does value good content because it takes into consideration the overall user experience. Research shows that users tend to access sites the organic way instead of through the pay per click method. Think about what the general public searches for on a regular basis. That being the case, incorporating keywords into your site that are relevant to your product will infact help your ranking because googles algorithms function accordingly.

SEO learners should also be aware that google will penalize black hat SEO. This is a term used to describe the utilization of cheap tricks to obtain a temporary high ranking in google. Yes, it will be temporary because google will penalize you.

You can optimize your site through two methods:

1. On page optimization - use relevant keywords in your header, perhaps even in the title of your site and in the last line of your content. It is recommended that you use a url with a static ip address instead of a url with a dynamic ip address to increase internet traffic to your site.

2. Off page optimization - This is typically done through the use of social media such as twitter, facebook, linkedn and so forth. You can also link to other sites and in turn, have them link back to yours.
